Personal Assistance Services for Minors in Daycare by IRC

Program Description

The intent of the Personal Assistant Service for consumers under the age of 18 years is to provide support for the consumer to participate in structured community activities with typical/non-disabled peers. PA Services for minor consumers vary differently and drastically from our adult consumers. The goal is to provide the consumer with the opportunity for him/her to be a part of a typical environment whereas optimal success may be achieved. The service is meant to assist the consumer with becoming more independent and become acclimated to the environment and/or activity with the idea that this support will not be needed over time.

IRC will support Personal Assistant:

These environments would include:

  • Local afterschool programs

  • Day Care

  • YMCA

  • Boys and Girls Club

  • Structured Parks and Recreation Programs for typical peers

  • Library Programs and Community Center Programs for typical peers

  • Structured activities that are not supported by a Disability Program

Parents are to pay or fund the activities, and the Personal Assistant will provide the additional support for the consumer to participate.

IRC will not support Personal Assistant:

  • To be used in lieu of School Services or during school hours.

  • The Personal Assistant is not to be used in lieu of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA/BHT) Services.

    • Shopping

    • Movie Theaters

    • Any other extracurricular activities with family

    • Not to be used as a form of respite
